What is Autism?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifelong neurodevelopmental difference. Early recognition and support can make a significant positive impact. Autism is not an illness or disease—it simply means the brain works in a different way.
Every autistic person is unique. Some may need very little support, while others may require daily help from family or carers. Autistic people often experience additional conditions, such as ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety, depression, or epilepsy.

Common signs of autism in adults include:
  • Difficulty understanding what others are thinking or feeling
  • Feeling anxious in social situations
  • Struggling to form or maintain friendships
  • Appearing blunt, disinterested, or “rude” without meaning to
  • Taking things literally, e.g. not understanding sarcasm or idioms
  • Feeling distressed when routines change
  • Strong attention to detail, patterns, smells, or sounds
  • Intense interest in specific subjects or activities
Autism can also present differently in women and men. For example, autistic women may mask or hide their difficulties, which can make diagnosis more challenging.

Treatment and Support
Autism is not something to be “cured.” Instead, support focuses on helping people understand their strengths and challenges, and improving quality of life. This may include:
  • Building communication and social understanding
  • Managing anxiety and stress
  • Developing flexibility and problem-solving skills
  • Improving emotional regulation
  • Accessing supportive therapies and peer networks
At ISC-CARE, we provide therapeutic input alongside diagnosis, helping individuals and families feel supported every step of the way.

Adult Autism Assessment
Our Adult Autism Assessment is suitable for anyone who suspects they may be autistic but has not previously received a diagnosis.

The assessment includes:
  • A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation
  • Each assessment includes a structured clinical interview informed by gold-standard diagnostic frameworks — the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) — in line with NICE guidelines and DSM-5-TR/ICD-11 diagnostic criteria.
  • A multi-disciplinary team (MDT) review to confirm the diagnosis
  • A detailed written report, including recommendations for ongoing support and care
Pricing
  • Adult Autism Assessment – £970 (includes a 3-hour consultation either face-to-face or via Zoom, full report, and recognised diagnosis)
  • Combined Autism & ADHD Assessment –  From £1,300
Our Approach
At ISC-CARE, we recognise that adults with neurodevelopmental differences often experience challenges that can affect relationships, family life, careers, and self-esteem. Our assessments are designed to be individualised, evidence-based, and compassionate.
We also provide post-diagnostic therapeutic options, which may include:
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Coaching and skills development
  • Medication management (where appropriate)
Our assessments are conducted by trained assistant psychologists, with diagnoses confirmed by our clinical team through MDT discussion.
